Leveraging AI and Adapting Assessments for Holistic Student Evaluation"" is designed to empower leaders, administrators, faculties and staffs from HE backgrounds. It focuses on the integration of AI in assessments for holistic student evaluation, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding, ethical consideration, and hands-on skills in this evolving domain.
Traditional assessment methods highlight their drawbacks such as providing limited insights into learning, lacking personalisation, and being outdated in assessing current skills. AI has begun to address some of these issues by offering more adaptive and relevant assessment tools. AI-based techniques such as automated assessment construction, AI-assisted peer assessment, and data analytics, have been developed to offload tasks from humans to AI and help to promote holistic assessment. However, the new challenges introduced by AI, emphasize the need for careful consideration in integrating AI into designing and implementing assessments.
The workshop will address the existing applications of AI for assessment in HE, highlighting both its challenges and opportunities. This exploration will include real-world examples and academic insights, providing a comprehensive outlook on AI's impact on student holistic assessment. Our discussion will also place a significant emphasis on ethical considerations by exploring the complexities of adopting AI for student assessment.
With a strong emphasis on practical application, attendees will engage in collaborative tasks to design AI-powered assessment strategies suitable for various higher education contexts. Through interactive discussions and collaborative tasks, participants will develop critical skills to ethically implement AI tools in their assessment design to enhance holistic student evaluations.

This workshop aims to nurture and engage effective approaches to teaching and learning through the practice of peer observation and professional dialogue.
Taking time out for professional dialogue is advocated as a means for professional learning and reflection on practice. Peer-observation of teaching (PoTs) has been widely recognised as a mechanism for developing an individual’s teaching practice. Specifically, formative peer observation and/or professional dialogues are considered by many to be a powerful tool for providing feedback to individual educators, disseminating disciplinary good practice and fostering a local evaluative enhancement culture.
Despite its widespread use, however, there are still reservations about the extent to which participation informative teaching observation can contribute to educators’ development. One critical area associated with the success of PoTs is the role of observers themselves. Specifically, observers with the right attitudes, skills and capabilities are more likely to provide quality and developmental feedback to colleagues. However, many observers often find themselves in such roles with little or no formal training. Therefore, the development of specific skills and abilities related to peer-observation and dialogues among educators are critical.
One powerful tool that can help develop observers is reflection. Through a combination of case scenarios and hands-on activities, this practice-based workshop seeks to develop individuals’ reflective practices as an observer. Additionally, participants will gain insights into best practices and challenges associated with Peer Observation/Professional Dialogues via an introduction to the practices of The University of Nottingham’s Teaching Learning and Observation College (TLOC).
Workshop participants will:

Data analytics is to a large extent propelling the steps in pedagogy reforms. It is making teachers more empowered in the way they make learning effective for students. Learning analytics which is defined as the measurement and dissection of data about learners used to optimise their learning experience can provide powerful tools for teachers in order to support them in the iterative process of improving the effectiveness of their lessons and to collaterally enhance their students’ performance.
The goal of learning analytics is to enable teachers and schools to tailor educational opportunities to each student's level of need and ability to close-to-real time. For students to change and get themselves to adapt to a new way of learning, it is important to help teachers get ahead of that change. With the right kind of learning analytical tool, teachers can surely have a strong grip over each student’s individual needs, capacities and interests.
In this boot camp, participants will develop a solid understanding of fundamental learning analytics theories and processes, and explore different types of educational data. By grasping these fundamental areas, they will have a better understanding of the field of learning analytics and be able to apply skills to improve student learning and school performance. The emphasis is to enable school leaders to improve school operations and for teachers to improve teaching effectiveness, by applying data-driven decision-making in schools.

In this workshop, learn from leaders at Singapore Management University (SMU) on how Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) can help you develop your curriculum. The session will cover how Gen AI will challenge long-standing practices of education and how you can best respond to and engage with it.
Participants will learn about how modules at SMU have used Gen AI tools in the classroom and how educators like yourselves, can make use of the same techniques.
The session will be focused on helping teachers get started with Gen AI in their classrooms with the aim of empowering teachers with the knowledge and skills they need to manage the use of Gen AI in their curriculum.
Participants will also get hands-on experience of using Gen AI to craft parts of their own curriculum. In particular, the curriculum development will focus on the creation of constructive and authentic problems for teachers to use to introduce concepts and drive student learning.
Experience how Gen AI can be used to create engaging and valuable experiences for students in the classroom, and how students themselves can use Gen AI to make the most of their own learning.
Workshop participants will:
In traditional classrooms, the teacher typically delivers content during class time, leaving students to grapple with understanding and application outside of class. team-based learning (TBL), a type of flipped classroom methodology, reverses this model where students engage with instructional materials before class, allowing for valuable in-class time to be dedicated to deeper learning.
This workshop aims to introduce educators to the concept of TBL as a powerful approach for promoting active engagement, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving among students.
In this experiential session participants will gain fundamental knowledge on the key steps in setting up a TBL curriculum. Importantly, they will evaluate the benefits of TBL, the use of the pedagogy in their own learning environments and strategise solutions to potential barriers. Discover free tech tools that can be used to explore ways in which TBL can be applied in different settings.
Additionally, participants will experiment the usage of AI, specifically ChatGPT to create TBL curriculum such as learning objectives, MCQs and application activities. Examples from healthcare and basic sciences will be used which can be applied to any area of education.
The principles of TBL can be extended into many types of flipped classroom approaches. Participants will be equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to transform their traditional classrooms into dynamic learning environments that foster student-centred learning and collaboration.
