The professional journey for Dr. Howard Menand began 1999 as a middle school English teacher in Charlotte, North Carolina. The experience, both humbling and enriching, taught him about the importance of connecting with students, using humor in the classroom and finding the best in each person. These are attributes he still focuses on today. After leaving the classroom, Howard embarked on a leadership pathway that included earning a Masters in School Leadership through the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He served as a school leader in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools before moving internationally to join the leadership teams at Qatar Academy Doha and Qatar Academy Sidra. Currently, Howard is the very proud Head of School at Global Jaya School in Jakarta, Indonesia. Howard is known for his collaborative leadership style, which emphasizes teamwork, communication, and a student-centered approach to education. He believes in creating a supportive and inclusive school community where every student feels valued and supported in their academic and personal growth. Howard understands that integrating technology into the classroom enhances learning opportunities and promotes digital literacy among students. As a speaker at EDUtech Asia 2025, Howard will share his insights on how to inspire and engage students in the digital age. His presentation will focus on the importance of developing students who are reflective and understand the role they play in their own learning process as a means to foster a sense of personal agency and resilience. Attendees can expect to gain valuable knowledge and practical strategies for transforming their own educational practices and creating a more innovative and student-centered learning environment.
