Jan Golembiewski, Director, Psychological Design

Jan Golembiewski PhD is a practising architect and a former industry professor for architecture at QUT in Australia. For decades, he has been an authoritative voice in rethinking how spaces shape (and are shaped by) the human mind and the molecular biology that underscores good mental health. But to describe Jan in these terms alone would be to miss a garden for an interesting tree that grows in it. Golembiewski has worked extensively in healthcare design, with hands-on experience designing environments that promote specific behaviours, healing, cognition, creativity, autonomy and the reduction of stress; but he is more pragmatic still. He has also dedicated the past few years to reducing the costs and inflated carbon footprints of building homes.  Golembiewski has published his scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals and publications from Springer Nature, Oxford University Press, The Financial Times (UK), the ABC (Australia), the BBC (UK), and presented at international conferences and judged major design awards. Equally, he is a successful artist who has been shown in Australia’s National Gallery and has won some of Australia’s top art prizes. He is currently working on a major book on design and how it translates into behaviour.
