Julian Carr is International Development Director for MAG (Manchester Airport Group), where he leads the focus on growing their overseas airport portfolio, expanding the Groups presence into international markets. Formerly he held the role of Aviation Director for Manchester Airport, although spent a period away from MAG during 2022/2024 working for GMR Airports based out of Delhi, India overseeing all air service development across their airport portfolio in India and Asia. Before entering the airport business, Julian was a senior executive on the airline side of the table, with his most notable role being that of Managing Director of bmibaby, the low-cost subsidiary of bmi. He has also been Head of Marketing and New Product development for IATA based out of their Montreal office and started his aviation career with Jet2.com where he was involved in the airlines launch. Prior to entering the airline industry Julian had 10 years of management experience within the entertainment industry, working with both Virgin and Blockbuster. He also had a period as Chief Executive of Showcase Cinemas UK business in more recent years, during a sabbatical from the aviation business. He holds an MSc in Air Transport Management from Cranfield University and is also a qualified private pilot.
