Gregor Marković, Director of Educational Technology, Wellington College International Tianjin

Gregor is driven by a passion and a keen combined interest in education and all things tech, especially tools empowering teachers and pupils along their educational journey. He holds a B.Ed. and an MA in Educational Technology (e-Learning), and is also an ISTE Certified Educator and a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert Fellow. Gregor assumed the role of Director of Educational Technology in Wellington College International Tianjin in 2016, contributing to the school's digital transformation into one of the leading schools in China. Wellington College International Tianjin became the first international Microsoft Showcase School in China in 2019, and has had an amazing response to extensive school COVID closures in 2020 and 2022 - thanks to effective use of EdTech, not a single live lesson was missed! Gregor attributes this success to the incredible dedication of his fellow educators and the hard work invested into the implementation and adoption of educational technology tools and services in the preceding period, through visionary planning and extensive training, mentoring, and follow-up opportunities. More recently, Gregor has worked on implementing 21st century tools such as educational VR and customised AI into the classroom for a next-level teaching and learning experience. Gregor has also written generative AI policies for staff and pupils for the Wellington College China group of schools, as a step toward safe and effective use of generative AI in education.

[W1] 4 Nov (PM) - AI 101: developing AI literacy for today's classrooms

AI is transforming every facet of our lives – and the classroom is no exception as generative AI has the power to shift the teaching and learning paradigm. This workshop will focus on introducing foundational AI (101) concepts, demystifying terminology such as machine learning, natural language processing and data analytics, and examining how these tools can enhance teaching practices and student learning experiences.

Through collaborative exercises, attendees will explore the time-saving benefits of AI integration such as idea generation, learning material design and assessment scaffolding. We will also address the ethical dimensions and drawbacks of AI integration, such as academic dishonesty, inaccuracy and bias in AI-generated content.

Attendees will leave equipped with a practical toolkit of strategies and resources, ready to implement AI-driven initiatives that not only boost student engagement but also simplify everyday tasks. Whether you’re an AI beginner or looking to refine your approach, this workshop will provide the knowledge and confidence to harness AI’s potential in a way that is both innovative and pedagogically sound.
