Marien de Jonge is Full Professor of Infection and Immunity and Head of the Laboratory of Medical Immunology at Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He obtained a PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2003, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, where he worked until 2006. He then transitioned to industry, taking on the role of R&D Project Leader at Merck Sharp & Dohme. In 2011, he returned to academia, joining Radboud University Medical Center as a senior scientist. In 2012, he was appointed Assistant Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018 and, in 2021, became Head of the Laboratory of Medical Immunology. In 2023, he was appointed Full Professor. The Laboratory of Medical Immunology is responsible for the clinical diagnostics of immune-related diseases and conducts cutting-edge research to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of immune disorders. Professor de Jonge has an extensive track record in vaccine development and host–pathogen interaction research. His work focuses on the mucosal immune system, with the aim of improving the prevention and diagnosis of respiratory tract infections. His group also investigates innovative intranasal and intradermal vaccination strategies and seeks to identify immune correlates of protection. In addition, they develop novel diagnostic tools to detect and monitor immune-related diseases
