Dr. Babita Agrawal is a Professor in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She completed M.Sc. in Biochemistry and PhD in Immunology. After completing post-doctoral training, she joined a Canadian biotech company, working on cancer vaccines. Since 2001, she has been at the University of Alberta as an independent investigator. She has received various career awards including Scholar and Senior Scholar Awards from AHFMR/Alberta Innovates. She has been a recipient of the Dean’s award for outstanding research achievements. She has held several CIHR, CFI and AHFMR operating and/or infrastructure grants. She is a well-recognized scientist with highly cited articles and issued patents in vaccine research and immunotherapy. Her recent work on mucosal vaccines and immunotherapeutics against respiratory pathogens opens new avenues of research on mucosal adjuvants and subunit modified-peptides based vaccines. Dr. Agrawal also seeks to understand and employ unique interrelationship of immunity and health with microbiota and bacterial therapeutics, and cross-reactive immunity.
