MicroTau is an advanced manufacturing and clean aviation technology company specialising in the design, development, and manufacture of drag-reducing ‘riblet’ microstructured surfaces for aviation. Our technology can save the global commercial aviation industry US$8 billion worth of fuel and prevent 40 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. ‘Riblet’ microstructures are periodic microscopic grooves aligned with the direction of flow of a fluid and our product is capable of improving aircraft efficiency by 4% currently and we continue to develop performance toward 10%. Our product offers a means for emissions abatement that not only lacks a “green premium”, it saves aviation operators millions of dollars in fuel costs and therefore enables profit uplifts of more than 20% in an industry with historically razor-thin margins.
