Tara Barron, Teacher, Rochedale State School Qld

Tara has been a teacher at Rochedale State School since 2015. The school caters for over 1000 students with 50 different cultural backgrounds. Tara has been instrumental in leading the promotion and valuing of these different cultures to raise the connection of all families with the school and to truly highlight and celebrate the community diversity. She also worked to develop global leadership skills within our students who she sees as the future leaders of our world. In 2018, Tara’s work was recognised by the Queensland Department of Education and she was selected to participate in a pilot program to develop the Department’s Global Competence Framework for all state schools across Queensland. This Framework was launched in 2022.

In 2023 Tara was recognised as the Australian Primary School Teacher of the Year (Government) at the Australian Education Awards and also received an Excellence in Teaching Award at the Queensland College of Teachers’ TeachX Awards.
