The responsible use of Generative AI - The Victorian Department of Education's approach.

In June 2024, the Department of Education, Victoria published new requirements for Victorian government schools around the use of generative AI tools. The department's policy complements the Australian Framework for Generative AI in Schools, by providing practical advice about how schools that choose to implement generative AI tools can do so in a safe and responsible manner.

During this session participants (from all schools and sectors) are invited to learn about the department's approach, why they have adopted it, and what it means for schools using and responding to this technology. Specific focus will be given to:

  • key policy requirements set for Victorian government schools when using generative AI tools
  • the department's advice for how staff and students can use generative AI tools safely and responsibly
  • the department's advice for how to promote academic integrity in the context of generative AI tools.
