Sydney beyond the Summit

Experience the magic of VIVID Sydney; your visit to EDUtech coincides with VIVID Sydney, the Southern Hemisphere's largest festival of light, music, ideas and food.

As the sun sets, the city transforms into a creative playground. From 22 May to 13 June, Sydney’s iconic landmarks, including the ICC Sydney precinct where EDUtech is held, come alive with spectacular 3D light projections, interactive art installations and world-class performances.

Make the most of your international trip by experiencing Sydney at its most vibrant. We recommend booking your accommodation early, as the city is in high demand during this unforgettable festival.

Travel Information for international delegates

Banking & money

Banks: Open Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm. Some banks in shopping centres open on Saturdays with varying hours.
ATMs: Available throughout Sydney, accepting most international bank cards.
Credit Cards: MasterCard, Visa, and American Express are widely accepted.
Currency Exchange: Available at Sydney Airport’s International Terminal, city centres, and major banks.

Climate

Sydney in June experiences mild winter conditions with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 18°C (46°F to 64°F). Pack warm clothing and a light rain jacket, as rain showers are common.

Travel Insurance

Visitors are advised to have travel insurance covering medical expenses.

Electricity

Voltage: 220-240V, 50Hz.
Plug Type: Australian three-pin plug. Adaptor sockets may be needed.

Emergency services

Dial 000 for police, fire or ambulance. Calls are free from any phone.

Goods & services tax (GST)

Australia has a 10% GST on goods and services. The Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) allows visitors to claim a refund on GST for eligible goods purchased in Australia and carried in hand luggage when departing.

Health & medical services

Australia has Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA) with several countries, allowing visitors from those nations to access public healthcare. However, private health insurance is recommended.

Language

English is the primary language, but many communities speak Arabic, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, and Chinese dialects. Translation services are available at 13 14 50.

Passports & visas

All international travellers (except most New Zealand passport holders) require a visa.
eVisitor Visa (Free) – Available for passport holders from select countries for short-term business or tourism stays up to 3 months.
Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) – Available for travellers from over 30 countries, including the USA. Applications can be made online.

Visa invitation letters

If you require a visa invitation letter to attend EDUtech 2026, contact education@terrapinn.com with your full name and registration details. Letters are issued only after completing registration and payment.

Population & cultural insights

Sydney is Australia’s largest city with a population of over 5 million. It has a rich Aboriginal history, and visitors can explore cultural landmarks and experiences throughout the city.

Post offices & shopping

Post Offices: Available throughout Sydney CBD and suburbs. Stamps can also be purchased at newsagents.
Shopping: From luxury brands in Pitt Street Mall to local designers in The Rocks, Sydney offers a vibrant shopping experience.

Public Phones & SIM Cards: Available at supermarkets and convenience stores.
WiFi: ICC Sydney provides complimentary WiFi. Free public WiFi is also available in major city areas.

Time zone

Sydney operates on Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST, UTC+10) in June.

Tipping culture

Tipping is not mandatory but appreciated for exceptional service. Rounding up the bill or leaving 5-10% at restaurants is common.

Transport in Sydney

Public transport: Sydney has an integrated system of trains, buses, ferries and light rail. The Opal Card is recommended for easy travel. Opal cards are available over the counter from Opal retailers, including convenience stores and newsagents. You can also order an Opal card here
Taxis & rideshare: Uber and DiDi operate throughout the city.
Airport transfers: the Airport Link train runs from Sydney Airport to the city in 15 minutes.

Smoking & vaping

Smoking and vaping are banned in enclosed public spaces, public transport, and outdoor dining areas. Fines apply for non-compliance.
