Claire Russell, Deputy Headteacher (Academic), Tanglin Trust School

Claire has 28 years of experience working in education, both in the UK and internationally. She started her career as a Teacher of English in the UK in 1997, and after many years of teaching and leading English, has followed her passion for pedagogy through roles such as Teaching and Learning Consultant in the UK, as well as various Senior Leadership positions in the academic domain. She is currently Deputy Head Academic in the Senior School at Tanglin Trust School, where, amongst other things, she has recently introduced a “Learning to Learn” programme across the senior school, which aims to equip students with metacognitive skills and an understanding of how memory works, building to greater independence in their academic lives. In addition to this, Claire has recently been leading the conversation about the role of motivation in learning and how teachers can develop greater motivation for all students in the classroom. She is looking forward to this discussion about self-directed learning.
