Dr Amin Khan is Chief Scientific Advisor at Afrigen Biologics, where he supports the development, scale-up, and global transfer of mRNA vaccine technologies through the WHO mRNA Technology Transfer Programme. He is a biopharmaceutical scientist and executive with more than 30 years of experience in vaccines and biologics, spanning research, translational development, CMC, manufacturing, technology transfer, and commercialization. Over his career, Dr Khan has held senior R&D leadership roles at GSK, GreenLight Biosciences, and Icosavax. He has led programs advancing vaccine candidates from antigen design through preclinical development and clinical proof-of-concept, as well as through late-stage development toward registration and commercialization. His experience also includes vaccine product and process development, scale-up, and the transfer of manufacturing processes for both vaccine antigens and final drug products. His current work focuses on translating emerging technologies into practical, scalable manufacturing platforms and strengthening vaccine development and manufacturing capabilities in Africa and other regions. He brings to the panel both industry and global-health perspectives on how innovative manufacturing technologies, technology transfer, and distributed manufacturing networks can strengthen pandemic preparedness, support equitable access, and enable sustainable vaccine supply.
