Adrian Hill, Director and Professor, The Jenner Institute - University of Oxford

Sir Adrian Vivian Sinton Hill, KBE FRS FMedSci is an Irish-British vaccinologist who is Director of the Jenner Institute and the Lakshmi Mittal and Family Professor of Vaccinology at the University of Oxford, an honorary Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases, and a Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford. Hill founded the Jenner Institute at Oxford University in 2005, now perhaps the leading academic institute designing and developing vaccines globally. Hill is a leader in the field of malaria vaccine development, designing, developing and later licensing the important high-efficacy nanoparticle in saponin adjuvant vaccine, R21/Matrix-M, in collaboration with the Serum Institute of India and many academic partners in 2023. This vaccine is now being rolled out in over 15 sub-Saharan African countries.  He was also a co-leader of the research team which produced the Oxford–AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in 2020 saving an estimated 6.5 million lives in 2021. He is currently focused on new approaches to the elimination of malaria. In 2026 he was awarded the European Patent Office Inventor Award for research towards the R21/Matrix-M vaccine. He has published over 700 papers with an h-index of 171.  His commitment to education and knowledge sharing has had a lasting impact on the field, inspiring countless researchers to pursue innovative approaches to vaccine development.

At the World Vaccine Congress Europe 2026, Adrian will share his insights on research, development, and strategic partnering in the global vaccine industry. His expertise in navigating the complexities of vaccine development, from preclinical research to clinical trials and regulatory approval, makes him a sought-after speaker and thought leader in the field.
