Mr van Lente is a health economist and an independent international consultant specialising in health financing. He has over 30 years' experience working in the German healthcare sector, including as Director of the AOK Federal Association, Germany's largest health insurance group. He spent eight years working at the European level as a representative of payer organisations, chaired the Medicine Evaluation Committee (MEDEV) and worked at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in Amsterdam.
He has been involved in supporting the development of innovative medicines for orphan diseases and has published a paper with EURORDIS entitled Patients, Payers and Developers of Orphan Medicinal Products: Lessons Learned from 10 Years’ Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Improving Access in Europe via MoCA in the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases (2023).
He currently works on health sector programmes in developing countries and lectures at the universities of Ulm and Heidelberg. He is also an author.
