Dr. Andrea Ballerini is a physician and clinical pharmacologist whose career spans translational research, healthcare investing, and pharmaceutical business development. After conducting research in oncology, drug delivery, and regenerative medicine in academic and non-profit institutions in Italy and the United States, he joined BiovelocITA, a biotech accelerator promoted by Sofinnova Partners, and subsequently Panakes Partners, a venture capital fund focused on biotech and medtech investments. In these roles, he evaluated and supported the development of innovative biotech and medtech companies through scientific, clinical, and strategic due diligence. He currently serves as Medical Director, Business & Portfolio Development at Italfarmaco, focusing on the identification, medical evaluation, and potential development of innovative therapies for rare and orphan diseases. His experience across academia, venture capital, and industry provides a unique perspective on how healthcare innovation progresses from scientific discovery to clinical development and patient access.
