The Emotion Contagion: The Compelling Case for EdTech + Social Emotional Learning

We know that learning is a social activity and therefore emotions matter, but how do busy teachers in increasingly complex classrooms integrate the development of social-emotional learning into the ebb and flow of daily classroom life? How can technology be levered to support the development of capabilities like self-awareness and self-regulation, critical for academic, life and work success? In this entertaining keynote, Mark Sparvell, Education Director at Microsoft shares what we should all do Monday and not Someday to develop social and emotional skills in all young people. Mark is a 30+ year experienced education teacher and leader, people ambassador for the Emotional Intelligence Society of Australia, Founder of SELinEdu, Advisor for Goldie Hawns’ MindUp Foundation and anti-bullying advocacy group PowerOfZero.

Distance is Nothing: Reshaping the learning environment

The pandemic taught us to be ready at any given moment, in case we were thrust into one of the many different variations of lockdown.

How have we measured the impact, managed the change and embraced transformation?

With technology that wouldn’t have even been possible 5-10 years ago at our fingertips, please join Lenovo to not

only see how the institution that is the school and the inner sanctum that is the classroom is now and forever changed

but how we need to be aware, prepare, welcome and enable the student digital natives. This is not just transformation

of learning but also changing culture. It’s about factoring everything in properly to begin the pathway to offering students

the opportunities regardless of location and to really showcase that with the enablement of collaboration platforms and

extending realities with emerging technology, distance is quite literally nothing.

Bringing the Joy Back to Learning – Undoing the Disruption

It’s more important now than ever to engage students in learning, get them interested in STEM/STEAM subjects, cultivate a growth mindset and instill a love for lifelong learning and to do that, we have to rethink our education systems. Learning through play cultivates the physical, intellectual, emotional and creative abilities of students by developing 21st century skills such as collaboration, curiosity and creativity. Hear from LEGO® Education about the LEGO Learning System and how it can re-engage our students by bringing hands-on learning and purposeful play into the classroom while undoing the recent disruption which has caused a large number of students to disengage from school – now is the time to reignite their joy.

In this session, we will explore:

Solutions for whole-school wellbeing

Wellbeing is always a key concern in schools. The wellness of leaders, staff and students are inextricably linked and constantly interacting, so when pressure hits one area, it affects all of them. It’s no surprise, then, that the events of the past two years – which have placed schools under greater pressure than in living memory – have taken a toll. Our Wellbeing Report, substantiates this. Although Australian teachers continue to be confident, motivated and retain strong relationships with their students, they are struggling with spiralling workloads, and feeling that their voices are not heard. In our session/fireside chat (?) we will discuss the findings of our wellbeing report and share practical examples of what schools are doing to improve wellbeing. We'll also share innovative ways technology can support your teachers – by reducing their workloads, enabling flexible working, and empowering staff.
