Dr Becky Dickinson BVetMed (Hons), MVSc Becky emigrated to Australia after graduating from RVC, London in 2006. She has since worked in multiple regional practices in Australia, with dairy cattle being her major focus. Completing a Dairy Residency in 2013, Becky developed a passion for veterinary education where she then observed significant challenges in delivering support and training for ambulatory large animal veterinary graduates, Becky established Veterinary Support Services in 2022 to strategically assist graduate transition to regional practice through active clinical supervision, education and mentoring. Through VSS, Becky secured an agriculture grant in 2024 to deliver the Victorian Livestock Veterinary Scholarship Program - a 2-year structured support and education program to upskill early-career livestock vets, improving rural veterinary capacity and capability.
What students and graduates experience in their initial years will significantly influence the formation of their professional identity and their understanding of good practices. This panel discussion explores professional identity and addresses the significance of first impressions for veterinarians and nurses at the beginning of their careers and how mentors can influence their career longevity and satisfaction.
