Dr Robert Charlton graduated from Murdoch Veterinary University in 2004 and since then has had a wide and varied career. Rob started out in mixed animal practice in regional Western Australia, working at several practices before moving to Tasmania for a couple of years to fulfill his passion for bushwalking and exploring the outdoors. On return to WA Robert successfully led a clinic team and then a mobile veterinary service. With the desire to lead better quality veterinary care and more complete patient services, Rob joined the largest veterinary hospital group in WA where over the last 9 years he has been part of the management team driving vet's special interests and developing the graduate program. His passion for dentistry also led Rob to achieve memberships in 2021 which led to facilitating VetPartners dental workshops as part of the Veterinary Training Centre offered to permanent vets within the group. As Veterinary Manager for the region, Rob's current passion is supporting vets in the first few years of their career, by providing practical framework and clinical training alongside mentors within each clinic.
What students and graduates experience in their initial years will significantly influence the formation of their professional identity and their understanding of good practices. This panel discussion explore professional identityll address the significance of first impressions for veterinarians and nurses at the beginning of their careers and how mentors can influence their career longevity and satisfaction.
