Gemma has worked within the international trade union movement for over 20 years. She is a firm believer that modern slavery cannot be sustainably tackled without addressing union-busting in countries where trade unions are free to operate. Her responsibilities include Business and Human Rights where she advocates for robust UK regulation to hold businesses and the pubilc sector accountable for harms caused to people and the planet. A strong proponent for worker-driven monitoring and remedy in global supply chains, she also focuses on sectors such as solar energy and electronics. Gemma's policy and advocacy work is grounded in UNISON's work with workers and their unions in the Global South. Gemma holds degrees from the School of Orental and African Studies specialising in international development, international relations and diplomacy.
