Ben Lawless is the founder and director of Lawless Learning, a Melbourne-based consultancy focused on developmental assessment and learning design. His work centres on helping organisations build clear learning progressions, capability frameworks, and assessment systems that make progress visible. Ben specialises in designing developmental rubrics and progression architectures based on the work of Patrick Griffin. He works with education technology companies, learning platforms, and schools to translate complex learning goals into structured levels that can support reporting, feedback, analytics, and product design. Alongside his consultancy, Ben teaches at the University of Melbourne in evaluation and assessment. He is also the creator of several learning games and is interested in how play can support deeper learning and engagement. Through Lawless Learning, Ben’s goal is straightforward: help organisations design assessment systems that show where learners are and what their next step should be.
