Tay Mia Eng, Assistant Director, Nanyang Polytechnic

Dr. Tay Mia Eng is a passionate educator who believes in unlocking the potential of every learner, regardless of learning style. With extensive experience collaborating with industry, she champions competency-based learning to equip learners with practical, workplace-ready skills. Dr. Tay emphasises mastering specific competencies in workplace learning, ensuring learners gain relevant, adaptable skills for real-world success. By fostering a competency-driven approach, Dr. Tay aims to prepare learners not only to meet immediate job requirements but also to adapt and excel in a dynamic workforce. She encourages self-paced, hands-on learning, where learners are assessed based on their ability to demonstrate key competencies, ensuring that each learner is fully equipped to apply what they have learned in meaningful, impactful ways. Mia Eng holds a PhD in Public Health Nutrition from UK Newcastle University, a MSc in Safety, Health & Environment from the National University of Singapore (NUS), and a bachelor’s degree with Honours in Chemical Engineering from NUS.  In addition, she is a certified Master Coach by SFIVET (Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training) and Assessor for Workplace Learning Framework by IHK Academy of Munich and upper Bavaria & Singapore German Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
