Dr Muhammad Raees Shaik Saffarudin is a Lecturer in the Business and Financial Programmes and an Educational Development & Innovation Associate at Sunway College Johor Bahru. He teaches International Business, Foreign Market Entries, Macroeconomics, Mathematics, and Business Statistics across diploma and degree cohorts, and since February 2024 has led college-wide work on integrating AI into teaching practice. He holds a PhD in Development Economics and an MA in Economics Management from Universiti Sains Malaysia, and a BS in Mathematics and Economics (magna cum laude) from the University of California, San Diego. His training focuses on purposeful AI integration in assessment and course design, emphasising iterative learning processes over end-product. He has designed and delivered workshops for students and lecturers, including To AI & Beyond: Vision, Video, and Imagination, AI Literacy for Students, Introduction to AI in Education, AI-Integrated Classroom Learning Activities, and the AI Games and Comics Creation Workshop. Recent recognition includes a Bronze Award at the Teaching & Learning Innovation Challenge 2025 for “Transforming Business Education through AI: Modular Strategies for Sustainable and Inclusive Learning”; top student-evaluation scores for International Business (Jan–Mar 2025) and Introduction to International Business (Mar–Jul 2025); and Graduate-on-Time completion of his PhD in 2 years and 8 months. His publications appear in Q1 and Q2 journals, including Technological and Economic Development of Economy, Quality & Quantity (augmented ARDL methods), Applied Economics, and Economic Systems. He also reviews for SN Business & Economics (Springer Journal) and Management of Environmental Quality (Emerald Journal).
