Jaroslav Turánek | Head of Research and Development
NEXARS

Jaroslav Turánek, Head of Research and Development, NEXARS

Jaroslav Turánek is professor of medical immunology and research professor in the field medical nanotechnologies and molecular biological sciences.  After studying biochemistry at the Masaryk University in Brno, he devoted himself to the development of immunopharmacology and immunotherapy in the field of recombinant and genetic vaccines. Part of his professional interest is the physical chemistry of nanosystems and nanotechnology for medical applications, especially in the field of targeted antitumor drugs based on nanoliposomes. In particular, in the field of modern recombinant vaccines, molecular adjuvants and biocompatible nanosystems, nanofibre-based mucoadhesive films  and application of click chemistry for vaccine construction, he belongs among the pioneers in the field. He is a founding member of the Czech Society for Cell and Gene Therapy, a committee member and chairman of the society. Prof. J. Turánek is a successful researcher or co-researcher of 16 large complex projects. For his work, he received a number of awards (e.g. two TAČR awards, the Minister of Agriculture Award and Minister of Health Award ) and a nomination for the Czech Head Award. In the period 2000-2018, he was the organizer and chairman of the scientific committee of a series of 11 international conferences "Drug Delivery Systems". Currently, J. Turánek coordinates the cooperation of the Department of Immunology Palacky University Olomouc with other academic and university workplaces and Czech pharmaceutical companies in the development of modern vaccines, adjuvants and recombinant therapeutic (projects “Recombinant Therapeutics for Medicine” and “Therapeutic Recombinant Proteins”). He is the head of R&D at the research organization NEXARS, which is focused on development of recombinant vaccines.
