Jaime Flores-Riveros, CSO, Amerstem

Dr. Flores-Riveros completed his PhD and postdoctoral studies on molecular mechanisms of insulin signal transduction and regulation of glucose transport at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. He then joined the West Haven Research Center from Bayer Pharmaceuticals as staff scientist, where he remained for 5 years working on drug development programs aimed at enhancing glucose transport in insulin resistant and diabetic states. He then joined the Institute for Diabetes Discovery in Branford, CT where he was a co-discoverer of the role of leptin in angiogenesis, its regulation by hypoxia, and its role in obesity and diabetes. He then moved to San Diego, CA, where he became Senior Vice President of Research (Endocrinology& Metabolism) at Harbor BioSciences, where he spent the next 7 years leading the team that developed Triolex, a drug candidate for treating type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, taking it from concept to clinical development stage in 4 years. He has over 25 years of research and development experience and has authoredmultiple peer-reviewed scientific publications and various patents and patent applications in several areas, including transcriptional regulation, inflammation-linked insulin resistance, sterol drug development, stem cell culture, and plant biomass expansion technology.
