Simona Rondini is the Head of Bacterial Vaccine Development and Senior Project leader at GSK Vaccines Institute for Global Health (GVGH) in Siena (Italy). Simona holds a PhD in Microbiology awarded by the Swiss Tropical Public Health Institute in Basel, and conducted postdoctoral studies at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York City. In 2007 she joined the newly created Novartis Vaccines Institute for Global Health (now GVGH), where she contributed to the development of a new conjugate vaccine against S. Typhi. Currently, she manages a team of Project Leaders and a broad vaccine pipeline of projects from early discovery (i.e. Klebsiella, GAS, GBS) to later stage development (Salmonella, Shigella). Throughout her carrier, Simona covered different roles with increasing scientific and leadership responsibilities and matured a broad knowledge in vaccinology and project development. Simona has a deep passion for Global Health, starting from her PhD work on Buruli Ulcer in West Africa and continuing with her involvement in GVGH vaccine programs.
