Dr Welch has over thirty years of proven experience developing, manufacturing and validating a range of large-molecule and oligonucleotide/RNAi based therapies and vaccines in the United States, Europe, China and Africa Currently Vice President Bioprocess Development and Manufacturing at IAVI where he is responsible for all development and manufacturing supporting IAVIs portfolio. Prior positions include Vice President of CMC/Operations, Sirnaomics developing siRNAs for oncology and metabolic diseases, Vice President Emergent BioSolutions where he led the Development Services site for the CDMO business unit, as well as heading the Process and Analytical Development for different business unites. He has also worked for Lonza, Cambrex and Baxter as well as other smaller companies where he developed over 60 recombinant proteins, peptides, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant viruses, siRNA and mRNA based vaccines and therapeutics and supported multiple regulatory filings from Phase 1 through licensure He received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Rice University and a dual Bachelors of Science in Biology and in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL and is the holder of several patents.
