Pietro Mastroeni is the Professor of Infection and Immunity at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, with a proven track record of groundbreaking research in the field of host-pathogen interaction, immunology, infectious diseases, antimicrobials and vaccines.
He obtained a Medical Degree in Italy and then he continued his studies in the United Kingdom at the University of Cambridge where he obtained a PhD. Later he was awarded the ScD by the University of Cambridge, and he became Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology.
Professor Mastroeni's research focuses on understanding pathogen behaviour within the body and translating this knowledge into the development of novel vaccines and treatments. His group has pioneered multidisciplinary approaches towards a global understanding of in vivo infection dynamics in relation to immunity, vaccination and antibiotic treatment and has contributed to identify mechanism and genes used by bacteria to evade immunity and spread in the body.
As a renowned scientist and educator, Professor Mastroeni has mentored numerous students and postdoctoral researchers who have become esteemed professionals in the field of biomedical sciences. He is a sought-after speaker at international conferences and has published extensively in top-tier scientific journals.
At the World Vaccine Congress Europe 2025, Professor Mastroeni will share his insights on research at the forefront of vaccinology and he will provide his expertise and innovative approaches to vaccine design thus contributing to advancing the field of immunization and combating infectious diseases on a global scale.
