Melanie Carr is Deputy Executive Director and Head of the Stakeholders and Communication Division, a member of the Executive Board at the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Since joining EMA in 1996, she has held roles across pharmacovigilance, the centralised procedure for marketing authorisation, orphan medicines, the SME Office and stakeholder engagement. As Head of the Stakeholders and Communication Division, she is responsible for stakeholder relations, communication and crisis management. In her Deputy Executive Director capacity, she also contributes to the Agency’s wider strategic leadership, including oversight of information security. She holds a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Nottingham in the UK and worked as a regulatory professional in the pharmaceutical industry before joining EMA.

Working Group: Quality Communication for Vaccine Literacy and Uptake

Vaccine confidence remains one of the most important determinants of successful immunization programs globally. As new vaccines are introduced and recommendations evolve, the need for clear, consistent, and trusted communication becomes increasingly important.

This working group provides a unique opportunity to bring together experts with complementary perspectives to identify approaches that improve vaccine literacy and foster trust. The goal is to move beyond discussion and develop practical recommendations that organizations can use to communicate more effectively, engage communities, and support informed vaccination decisions.

The session aligns with broader efforts to strengthen public confidence in vaccines, improve health literacy, and ensure that evidence-based information remains accessible and actionable for the audiences who need it most.
