Karelle DE LUCA, Head of R&D, GALVmed

Dr Karelle De Luca has been the Head of Research & Development at GALVmed since September 2023. GALVmed aims to make a significant contribution towards transformational change in the small-scale livestock health landscape by developing a portfolio of high impact  products and initiating a range of private sector market initiatives operating at scale in the smallholder sector. Karelle promotes Product development and Innovation that serve small-scale livestock producers in Sub-Saharan Africa. This involves partnering with universities, research institutes, and the private sector to develop high impact health interventions where main targets are vaccines, parasiticides and diagnostic tools, for disease affecting Poultry, Small and Large Ruminants. As a researcher in immunology and vaccinology, she brings both deep knowledge and strong field connections. Curious and determined to make a tangible difference through her work, she has been successfully leading teams and research programs in the Human and Animal Health Industry for over 15 years. Karelle holds a Master's and PhD degrees in Immunology/Haematology from the Université Claude Bernard in Lyon, France and has an Executive MBA from EM Lyon. She has previously held senior position in R&D at Boehringer Ingelheim, Merial and Sanofi.
