Julia Djonova, Head of ATMP division, Swissmedic

Julia Djonova, MD is Head of the Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) department at Swissmedic, the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products. Dr Djonova is a medical doctor trained in cardiology, followed by academic and research roles at the Universities of Lausanne and Fribourg in Switzerland. The regulator career of Dr. Djonova began at the Federal Office of Public Health, where she was actively involved in launching and establishing inspections activities with transplants, as well as the hemovigilance system in Switzerland. At Swissmedic and before her role as Head Division ATMP,  she oversaw different tasks, such as clinical assessor while continuing in transplantation oversight. Dr Djonova engages in building the regulatory approach, the frameworks, and the expertise necessary to support the development and evaluation of ATMP's. She is a representative in various national and international forums in the fields of cells/tissue engineering product and innovative therapies. She participates in the development of legal requirements and national and international guidelines in advanced therapy medicinal products and represents the ATMP's project within the Swissmedic's Innovation Office.
