James trained as a chemist and holds a master’s degree in spectroscopy and a doctorate in pharmaceutical chemistry. Today he is based in the United Kingdom as an established senior director in the regulatory group within the PPD clinical research business of Thermo Fisher Scientific.  His career in regulatory affairs spans three decades with the last 23 years at PPD. During his tenure at PPD, James has provided oversight and governance across a wide range of products and therapies at all stages of development and into their marketing and lifecycle management. In 2021, he was awarded the Organisation for Professional Regulatory Affairs (TOPRA) Support Award for leading a regulatory team to deliver Covid-19 vaccine applications to six territories over four continents.
