Ziphius Vaccines

Basiel Cole is a Senior Scientist at Ziphius, a Belgian biotech company developing self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) technologies. As project leader, he heads the development of a prophylactic vaccine against Chlamydia trachomatis. He trained as a bioscience engineer at Ghent University, specializing in cell and gene biotechnology. He then earned his PhD at the HIV Cure Research Center, where he developed sequencing-based and single-cell assays to study HIV-1 persistence. He went on to postdoctoral research at the Laboratory for Precision Cancer Medicine at KU Leuven, where he led a multi-stakeholder project on single-cell functional diagnostics for brain tumors. He joined Ziphius in 2024, bringing a background in virology, host–pathogen biology and single-cell technologies to the vaccine field.
