Carla Hollak, internist, Amsterdam UMC

Carla Hollak, internist for inherited metabolic disorders at Amsterdam UMC, is UvA professor of 'Medicine and Society'. Carla has been the founder of the department of metabolism in adults for the past 20 years and was at the basis of the expertise center for inherited metabolic disorders at Amsterdam UMC. The launch of the platform 'Medicijn voor de Maatschappij', which stimulates academic drug development and accessibility through science and translation to society, was based on her experiences with drugs for rare diseases. This initiative was recently continued and expanded in collaboration with various UMCs with the establishment of the RARE-NL foundation, of which she is chair. She is involved in various advisory committees and is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
