Jin Ding, Research Fellow, University of Sheffield

Jin Ding is a Research Fellow at iHuman since 2021, collaborating with Professor Paul Martin and Professor Michael Hopkins on a Wellcome Trust funded project. Her primary focus lies in understanding the industry dynamics and evolution of orphan drugs across the UK, EU, and US regions. Leveraging data from reputable sources such as MHRA, EMA, FDA, and industry databases like Pharmaprojects, Jin's work aims to map the growth trajectory of orphan drugs and assess their accessibility across various countries and regions. Additionally, she investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on orphan drug repurposing, particularly in facilitating faster access to affordable treatments and shaping the emerging pharmaceutical innovation ecosystem. Before her tenure at the University of Sheffield, Jin served as a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham, where she delved into the platform business of 3D-printed pharmaceuticals. Her research centered on evaluating the economic feasibility of drugs manufactured via 3D printing and identifying barriers hindering the adoption of this disruptive technology within the industry.
