Karen Burke, Director, Secondary Curriculum, NSW Department of Education

Karen is a dedicated leader in NSW Public Education with over 30 years of diverse experience that has profoundly shaped her approach to leadership and development. Her journey encompasses roles in teaching and leadership across rural, regional and metropolitan settings, as well as system leadership positions. She relishes designing and delivering tailored professional development, coaching and engaging in casual academic opportunities. Most recently, Karen convened units in the Master of Education program at the University of Canberra.  Accredited at Lead, she advocates for the importance of reflective practice in professional growth and serves as an ambassador for higher levels of accreditation. Recently appointed as the new Director, Secondary Curriculum, Karen brings with her seven transformative years as Director, Educational Leadership in rural NSW, collaborating with 20 schools to achieve remarkable outcomes.  In her current role, Karen embraces the privilege to nurture a dynamic team of curriculum experts committed to curating and delivering high-quality resources. Together, they empower teachers and leaders across NSW public schools to implement the secondary curriculum with confidence and fidelity.
