Hugh Chilton, Head of ScotsX, The Scots College, Sydney

Dr Hugh Chilton is Head of ScotsX, an experimental learning lab at The Scots College, Sydney, aiming to create a new model of education for human formation. An experienced leader in research and innovation, character education and leadership development, he co-founded and convenes the Research-Invested Schools Network, which brings together more than 70 schools across public, independent and Catholic sectors committed to innovation and leadership in research. He has been a Conjoint Lecturer at the University of Newcastle and member of the International Boys’ Schools Coalition Research Committee. In 2023 he was included in The Educator’s list of Most Influential Educators and in 2024 received the Leadership Award from the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (NSW). Hugh holds a BA (Advanced) (Hons) and PhD in history from the University of Sydney, and is a published historian, speaking and writing for a wide range of audiences, including ABC Radio National.
