Brett is an accomplished educator within the NSW Department of Education with extensive leadership experience in leveraging technology to enhance student learning. He has a background teaching high school science and leading teaching and learning improvements that he draws on in his current statewide role as Leader Formative Assessment. In this role, he develops support for schools to use assessment effectively to inform instructional decisions teaher's make to differentiate learning and meet the needs of all students.

Brett's leadership of statewide programs, such as the Check-in Literacy and Numeracy assessments for Years 3 to 9 and the VALID Science assessments for Years 8 and 10, highlights his commitment to integrating technology effectively within departmental schools. Brett aims to connect assessment authentically with the teaching and learning cycle, emphasising the importance of both formal and informal assessment data in providing a holistic view of student knowledge and skills and inform next steps in student learning. In addition to his deep understanding of assessment practices, Brett has led a teams to build capabilities of teachers across the state in embedding critical and creative thinking into practice and worked on programs to support whole school wellbeing and improvement in student attendance. By harnessing technology, he fosters an environment where educators can innovate and inspire students, ensuring that all learners benefit from engaging and interactive educational experiences and providing teachers with timely student learning information to guide their instructional choices. He focuses on using assessment information purposefully and having technology enhance the learning experiences of students, Brett is a lifelong learner who continually seeks to connect ideas and concepts to deliver high-quality educational experiences and equitable access to learning for all students in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
