Asstariny Harumningtyas | Primary School Teacher
Tzu Chi School

Asstariny Harumningtyas, Primary School Teacher, Tzu Chi School

For over twenty years, Asstariny has been on a mission to transform education by placing students at the center of the learning experience. She began her career in the field of education in an informal setting. During her High School and Early College years abroad in the U.S., she took several positions as a Camp Counselor and Activity Leader to Elementary School and Middle School-aged children.  Her passion in teaching later expanded into formal education upon returning to her hometown of Jakarta, Indonesia. Beginning her teaching career as a Primary English teacher in an international school in Jakarta, Asstariny quickly recognized the need for innovative teaching methodologies that fostered curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. In the years of her classroom teaching, she quickly diversified her expertise to include teaching Social Studies, Global Perspectives, and Science, leaving an indelible mark as both a subject specialist and a nurturing homeroom teacher, covering all Primary School levels from Grade 1 to Grade 6, extensively. Asstariny’s passion for meaningful learning experiences led her to embrace project-based learning and design thinking as the core of her pedagogical approach, empowering students to take ownership of their education, explore their interests, collaborate with each other and make connections with the world around them. Outside of the classroom, Asstariny is deeply committed to promoting holistic well-being among students, drawing from her interests in psychology and crystal healing to cultivate environments of positivity and resilience. As a dedicated movie buff, she finds inspiration in cinematic narratives, while her love for diverse cuisines allows her to savor the flavors of different cultures, enriching both her personal and professional lives.
