Professor Mary De Silva is Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser in the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), responsible for broad scientific areas including health protection, innovation and cross government science policy. Mary is also Head of the Science and Engineering Profession in DHSC, supporting the professional development of nearly 200 scientists and strengthening the use of evidence in policy making. Mary also is Honorary Professor of the Practice at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and is an epidemiologist with expertise in a range of disciplines including clinical trials, implmentation science, systems thinking and population based data, in both UK and in low and middle income countries. Before joining DHSC, Mary was Head of Population Health at Wellcome, and before that Deputy Director of the Centre for Global Mental Health at LSMTM.
