VirXcel is developing macrocyclic peptides (MCP) with antiviral activity against respiratory viruses. The MCP formulations are intranasally (self-)administered by means of a nose spray. Our first 'demonstration project' is an antiviral against SARS-CoV-2. We will boraden our pipeline with MCP-antivirals against influenza and other respiratory viruses. The antivirals act early (before the virus enters the cell) and we have demonsrated that our first antiviral provides broad-spectrum protection against several sarbecoviruses.
We have successfully completed PK- and efficacy studies in animals. Formulation development is ongoing.
