Abvion is a Utrecht University spin-off pioneering AbDirect, a protein-centric antibody discovery platform that sequences functional human antibodies directly from patient biofluids. Whereas genomics-based methods like single-cell BCR sequencing sample peripheral B cells, AbDirect accesses the in vivo-matured antibody molecules actually secreted into circulation. This delivers fully human, pre-validated antibody leads from the patients who made them. We have demonstrated this approach in a COVID-19 proof-of-concept, recovering multiple highly potent neutralizers that prior BCR sequencing on the same sample had missed entirely. Abvion partners with biopharma and academic groups to discover antibodies across disease areas.
