Daria Julkowska, PhD, is a European research strategist and rare disease leader recognized for building some of the world’s most ambitious collaborative frameworks in rare disease research and innovation. Trained as a molecular biologist in France and Poland, she transitioned from bench science to global research leadership, where she has spent the past decade shaping Europe’s rare disease ecosystem through major multinational initiatives including E-Rare, the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP RD), and now ERDERA - the €380M European Rare Diseases Research Alliance. As Coordinator of ERDERA and Head of Strategy and Partnerships in Health at INSERM’s Institute for Genetics, Genomics and Bioinformatics, Dr. Julkowska leads cross-sector partnerships spanning academia, biotech, industry, patient advocacy, and policy. Her work focuses on accelerating diagnosis, advancing translational research, enabling clinical trial readiness, and creating scalable public-private models that better serve people living with rare diseases. Widely recognized for her strategic leadership, she has received the EURORDIS Black Pearl Award for European Leadership and INSERM’s Prix Appui à la Recherche, reflecting her role at the forefront of Europe’s rare disease transformation.
