Waheed Ahmed, Director of Automotive System Architecture, Mediatek

Waheed Ahmed is an automotive technology leader with 23+ years of experience in software for automotive systems and low-level software. He is a subject matter expert in automotive base software and hypervisors, with extensive experience in system software architecture, platform development, and next-generation in-vehicle computing. He holds a master’s degree from RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Over the years, he has worked closely with semiconductor partners, OEMs, and cross-functional engineering teams to define scalable automotive architectures that support both current and future mobility needs. One of the key milestones in his career was serving as chief architect for the world’s first domain controller platform, which transformed the EE architecture of vehicles and helped pave the way toward centralized and zonal architectures. The platform consolidated multiple discrete vehicle functions, including IVI, instrument cluster, and HUDs, into a single SoC-based hardware architecture, while also enabling shared use of RAM and flash across multiple functions to improve efficiency, integration, and overall system performance.
At MediaTek, Waheed led the architecture development of MediaTek automotive software for Dimensity Auto, a platform that integrates NVIDIA GPUs and MediaTek CPUs to deliver advanced in-vehicle computing capabilities. His work has included exploring how to deploy AI in cars for infotainment and ADAS systems, with an emphasis on creating smarter, more connected, and more responsive user experiences. He has been deeply involved in translating advanced technology into practical automotive solutions that can support the growing demands of software-defined vehicles.
