Professor Shokoofeh Shamsi is a leading expert in foodborne parasitology, animal health, and biosecurity, with a strong international profile in One Health research. She is a Professor at School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences, Charles Sturt University, specialising in parasites of edible animals and their implications for food safety, public health, and sustainable food systems. Professor Shamsi has made significant contributions to the field through her work with the United Nations system, including expert involvement in FAO/WHO initiatives on the microbiological risk assessment of foodborne parasites originating from meat, fish, and other animal-derived foods. Her research focuses on parasite diagnostics, transmission pathways through the food chain, parasite–host interactions, and the translation of scientific evidence into risk-based food safety policy. Through extensive collaboration with international agencies, government bodies, industry partners, and research institutions, Professor Shamsi contributes to improving biosecurity, surveillance, and risk management strategies across terrestrial and aquatic food production systems. Her expertise is widely recognised through high-impact publications, leadership in international research programs, and advisory roles in animal and aquatic health.
