Jane Jarvis, Senior Lecturer in Inclusive Education, Flinders University of South Australia

Jane a Senior Lecturer and Co-Chair of the Research in Inclusive and Specialised Education (RISE) group at Flinders University in Adelaide. The primary focus of my research, teaching, and consultancy is on the design and implementation of effectively differentiated learning experiences for academically diverse learners, including those with disabilities and those with advanced academic abilities. Jane's work aims to foster contemporary, evidence-informed models of inclusive education and academic talent development, at the levels of classroom, school, and system-wide practice and policy. Jane holds a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Virginia, and my academic experience and commitment to inclusive practice builds on diverse professional experience as a teacher, specialist educator, counsellor, behaviour support practitioner and administrator, across special education, gifted education and disability services, in Australia and the United States.

This presentation considers how educators can leverage technology to support academically diverse learners in a range of contemporary learning settings, including online environments. Topics include:
  • Quality differentiation for learner diversity
  • The role of effective formative assessment routines
  • Opportunities and considerations for using technology to support differentiation
  • Ideas for supporting students with specialised learning requirements and for challenging academically advanced students
