Dr James Humberstone, Associate Professor in Music Education, Sydney Conservatorium of Music

James Humberstone is a teacher, composer-producer, researcher, and technologist who works at the University of Sydney, Sydney Conservatorium of Music as a Associate Professor in Music Education. His background in technology in music education was established through nearly a decade at Sibelius Software (now a division of Avid), where he worked his way from technical support to being the Director of Education and Applications in Australia. He also spent 12 years as a K-12 classroom music teacher with a focus on musical creativity, before finishing his PhD and moving into academia. At the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, James lectures in technology, composition/creativity, and music teaching methods. He researches technology, social justice, the worldview of music teachers, Educative Evidence-Based Practice in music education, and teaching musical creativity. His most recent stage show, Agapi and other kinds of love with poet-rapper Luka Lesson has been touring Australia for the past three years. James also writes a personal blog and shares teaching resources that he makes at humberstone.org.
