Catherine Lockhart is Principal of Kardinia International College in Geelong, Victoria. Prior to Kardinia she held leadership roles at schools in Adelaide, Dubai, and Sydney. Catherine Lockhart has been teaching for over 30 years and is a passionate and innovative educator.  Developing great thinkers and inquirers, students who can question and apply their knowledge through a wide range of experiences is at the heart of Catherine’s educational philosophy.  Catherine also believes that it is equally important that students develop a strong empathy and understanding of others, learn to work collaboratively and effectively within a group, as well as independently.  Catherine believes strongly in encouraging students to take ownership of their learning, while also monitoring their development and helping them to reflect on their actions and learning. Catherine is currently completing her Educational Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Innovation at Arizona State University through the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College. Her dissertation project is focused on developing 21st Century skills through embedding them within the regular school curriculum. The project called Adding SPICE to Learning looks at her schools 21st Century learning framework incorporating Social, Personal, Intercultural, Critical and Creative thinking and Ethical skills (SPICE) and using active learning pedagogy to incorporate the SPICE skills across the curriculum. Catherine has a Bachelor of Human Movement with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Charles Sturt University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Administration from Flinders University.  In 2018, she completed the Harvard University Graduate School of Education ‘Leading an Evolving Vision Institute, Educational Leadership and Administration, General’ course and in 2021 completed the Certificate in School Management and Leadership through the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Business School.
