Tiew Ming Yek, Principal, ITE College East

Dr Yek Tiew Ming, EdD, PPA(P), BBM Dr Yek is an experienced professional in the field of vocational and technical education with multiple National Level awards and more than 40 years of experience in Singapore’s education scene. Out of which, he has more than 20 years of experience as a member of the Senior Management team at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore with focus on providing effective leadership, setting overall direction and formulating management policies to deliver quality and relevant programmes to develop young minds. He is a passionate educator and leader who believes in serving and giving back to the community. Dr Yek was appointed to his current position in April 2015. Prior to this, he was the Principal of ITE College West from 2005 - 2015, ITE College Central in 2005 and ITE East Network from 2000 - 2004. As a member of the senior Management Team, He is in the front seats playing significant roles in the transformation of ITE over more than 20 years and driving some key transformative projects. He had previously held teaching appointments as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (1983-1998). During his tenure at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Dr Yek was responsible for various functions including Strategic Planning, Organisation Review and promoting Application Research and Development. He was active in consultancy projects and had worked with many local SMEs on CAD/CAM-CNC Integration, Automation and Computerized Machine Control Projects. Dr Yek is active in community services. He is currently serving as a Member of Board of Governors for NorthLight School, an Academic Board member for Singapore Media Academy and a District Councillor of South East CDC. For his work in Public & Community Service. Dr Yek had received five National Day Awards: The Public Administration Medal (Bronze), PPA(G), in 2004; The Public Administration Medal (Silver), PPA(P), in 2010; The Public Service Medal, PBM, in 2013, The Public Service Star Medal, BBM, in 2021, and The Long Service Medal, PBS, in 2023. He also received the NTUC May Day – Medal of Commendation Award in 2018 and the twenty years’ Long Service Award from People’s Association in 2020.
