[W7] 3 Nov (PM) - From AI policy to AI practice: building an AI ready higher education institution without losing institutional identity

Every higher education institution is asking the same question: How do we use AI to personalise learning, redesign assessment and improve student success - without making every learning experience look the same?

This interactive workshop explores practical strategies for building an AI-ready university that puts pedagogy first. Through collaborative activities, digital canvases, and real-world higher education scenarios, participants will discover how AI can support more personalised learning, bridge skills gaps and improve student outcomes while preserving the distinctive teaching approaches, academic strengths and values that define their institution.

Together, participants will examine how on-device and hybrid AI can provide targeted learning support, language assistance, and personalised feedback for diverse student cohorts. The workshop will also tackle one of higher education's biggest emerging challenges: how to embrace AI without creating generic learning experiences or assessments that look the same everywhere.

Working in teams, attendees will redesign course activities and assessments to become more authentic, AI-resilient and centred on higher-order thinking. Along the way, they'll explore practical frameworks for embedding AI into teaching and learning in ways that enhance, rather than replace, the educator's role.

Participants will leave with actionable ideas, prompt frameworks, assessment templates and a practical roadmap for implementing AI in ways that strengthen both student success and their institution's unique educational identity.
